Students who have applied, or are planning to apply, to the Engineering Science program at HVCC are eligible for this new opportunity.

Investment by the federal government through the CHIPS and Science Act coupled with those from industry and state governments promise to reinvigorate and transform the US semiconductor industry. The workforce needs of this growing sector present a monumental challenge. To respond to this challenge, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) are launching a Semiconductor Scholars Program.

The RPI-HVCC Semiconductor Scholars Program will provide:

  • Financial merit award to scholars in their first and second years in the Engineering Science program at HVCC. Scholars will receive $1,000 for each of the two years at HVCC. The merit award is eligible to be applied to tuition, fees and any other educational expenses. Awardees will need to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20 to be eligible for the second year.
  • Opportunities to engage with and be mentored by RPI faculty and advising staff.
  • Opportunities to visit RPI laboratories and facilities throughout the year.
  • Opportunities for research or curricular engagement during the summer between years 1 and 2 at HVCC.
  • Opportunities for 2+3 Pathways to BS or BS+MS degrees in various engineering disciplines at RPI supported by significant RPI financial support (once accepted at RPI).
  • Opportunities to engage with semiconductor industry partners.

Program Application

Students who have applied, or are planning to apply, to the Engineering Science program at HVCC are encouraged to complete the Scholars Program application below. Awardees will be selected by a combined team from RPI and HVCC.
